Auditorium Takes its time with New Name
Monday, February 4, 2008 - The Chronicle-Journal
The Thunder Bay Community Auditorium‘s open request for interested naming sponsors has shown some results, meaning that the building may soon have a new name.
During a meeting at the end of January, Community Auditorium board officials heard about three serious expressions of interest. They will be examining these submissions throughout the week.
“In my opinion the three expressions that we got are all legitimate . . . I think that all three of them would fit with the building,” said Auditorium general manager Bob Halvorsen on Monday.
Because this is the first decision of its kind for the Auditorium, Halvorsen emphasizes that a slow and careful approach to the name change is in order to avoid any costly missteps.
“We are going to have a meeting with City Purchasing . . . to go over process on how we‘re going to proceed,” said Halvorsen on Monday.
Auditorium board president Bruce Anderson is similarly cautious.
“We don‘t want to shoot ourselves in the foot right now,” said Anderson on Monday. “It‘s not like we‘ve done this a lot of times before.”
Nevertheless, the board members meet today to further discuss the three submissions, and they expect to have made significant progress on the matter by the end of the week.
“We very pleased that three corporations . . . have thought enough of the Auditorium that they‘re willing to associate their name with the place,” said Halvorsen. “That in itself is a great thing.”
